PLAZAMEDIA and Comcast Technology Solutions implement revamped VoD and live video platform of SPORT1

Comcast Technology Solutions, a company of Comcast Cable and provider of video management systems and publication, distribution and monetization solutions, and PLAZAMEDIA, content solution provider in the production segment, are set to provide an end-to-end online platform for Germany’s leading 360° multimedia sports platform SPORT1 with its premium national and international live sports programming. Users will gain access to SPORT1’s comprehensively optimized VoD services in the third quarter of 2017 and the corresponding live video service toward the end of 2017.

SPORT1 presents premium national and international sports on its free-TV channel SPORT1 and its pay-TV channels SPORT1+ and SPORT1 US, including soccer, motorsports, tennis, ice hockey, basketball, handball, volleyball, field hockey, rugby, darts and US sports. SPORT1.de is one of Germany’s leading online platforms for sports, providing current multimedia content as well as a wide range of live-stream and video offerings. In the mobile segment, the SPORT1 apps are among the most successful German sports apps.

Implementing the end-to-end multi-screen platform for SPORT1 is the first joint project between PLAZAMEDIA and Comcast Technology Solutions since the announcement of their partnership on the integration of the latter’s distribution solutions into PLAZAMEDIA’s digital media portfolio. Based on this collaboration, PLAZAMEDIA can use the infrastructure of Comcast Technology Solutions to reproduce the multi-screen value chain and complex workflows required by SPORT1 by introducing a customized online solution. This solution will also allow live events to be offered later. It enables flexible monetization models, such as via one-time payments and subscription models. Later integration of VoD content from external content providers as well as social media syndication are in the pipeline. As before, viewers can access the content on various devices via the SPORT1 website, the News app available for iOS and Android and the SPORT1 TV apps.

Carsten Witt of Comcast Technology Solutions says: “We have worked very closely with PLAZAMEDIA to introduce workflows for automated publishing and distribution which not only offer excellent usability, but which can at the same time provide SPORT1 with extensive analytics data. This can improve both business development and customer lifetime value. PLAZAMEDIA has created an end-to-end multi-screen video reference architecture integrating Comcast Technology Solutions as the central component of the solution. The extensive enhancement with metadata from Comcast Technology Solutions helps in the search for content and will satisfy the demands of the end users with its flexible monetization solution.”

Robin Seckler, Managing Director Digital Products at PLAZAMEDIA, comments: “With the video platform solution from Comcast Technology Solutions, SPORT1 has implemented a modern, state-of-the-art online platform for video content and live streaming for all its free and pay offerings. The high flexibility of the functions and the high versatility of the video platform will benefit us long-term. On this basis, we can from now on offer our users Mediathek content across all our channels with a central system, simplified workflows and maximum efficiency.”
